چکیده

We report on a novel approach to the Deam-Edwards model for interacting polymeric networks without using replicas. Our approach utilizes the fact that a network modelled from a single non-interacting Gaussian chain of macroscopic size can be solved exactly, even for randomly distributed crosslinking junctions. We derive an exact expression for the partition function of such a generalized Gaussian structure in the presence of random external fields and for its scattering function S0. We show that S0 of a randomly crosslinked Gaussian network (RCGN) is a self-averaging quantity and depends only on crosslink concentration M/N , where M and N are the total numbers of crosslinks and monomers. From our derivation we find that the radius of gyration Rg of a RCGN is of the universal form R 2 g = (0.26±0.01)a2N/M , with a being the Kuhn length. To treat the excluded volume effect in a systematic, perturbative manner, we expand the Deam-Edwards partition function in terms of density fluctuations analogous to the theory of linear polymers. For a highly crosslinked interacting network we derive an expression for the free energy of the system in terms of S0 which has the same role in our model as the Debye function for linear polymers. Our ideas are easily generalized to crosslinked polymer blends which are treated within a modified version of

Constraints for order parameters in analogical neural networks ∗

Abstract. In this paper we study, via equilibrium statistical mechanics, the properties of the internal energy of an Hopfield neural network whose patterns are stored continuously (Gaussian distributed). The model is shown to be equivalent to a bipartite spin glass in which one party is given by dichotomic neurons and the other party by Gaussian spin variables. Dealing with replicated systems, ...

The glassy phase of Gallager codes

Gallager codes are the best error-correcting codes to-date. In this paper we study them by using the tools of statistical mechanics. The corresponding statistical mechanics model is a spin model on a sparse random graph. The model can be solved by elementary methods (i.e. without replicas) in a large connectivity limit. For low enough temperatures it presents a completely frozen glassy phase (q...

The interplay of intrinsic disorder and macromolecular crowding on α-synuclein fibril formation.

α-synuclein (α-syn) is an intrinsically disordered protein which is considered to be one of the causes of Parkinson's disease. This protein forms amyloid fibrils when in a highly concentrated solution. The fibril formation of α-syn is induced not only by increases in α-syn concentration but also by macromolecular crowding. In order to investigate the coupled effect of the intrinsic disorder of ...

Statistical mechanics of scale-free networks at a critical point: complexity without irreversibility?

Based on a rigorous extension of classical statistical mechanics to networks, we study a specific microscopic network Hamiltonian. The form of this Hamiltonian is derived from the assumption that individual nodes increase or decrease their utility by linking to nodes with a higher or lower degree than their own. We interpret utility as an equivalent to energy in physical systems and discuss the...

A Mean Field Learning Algorithm for Unsupervised Neural Networks

We introduce a learning algorithm for unsupervised neural networks based on ideas from statistical mechanics. The algorithm is derived from a mean eld approximation for large, layered sigmoid belief networks. We show how to (approximately) infer the statistics of these networks without resort to sampling. This is done by solving the mean eld equations, which relate the statistics of each unit t...
